DANVILLE, ILL. – Services for Lee Seeley, 49, of Danville, Ill., will be held at 7 p.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church in Danville. A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday in the chapel of Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery in Logansport.

Lee went home to be with his Lord after a long and courageous battle with cancer at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2001.

He was born April 13, 1952, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Theron Beckwith. Lee was then adopted at age 2 by Alve and Pauline Seeley, at which time they relocated to Dalton, Ga., where Lee grew up. Lee accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in July of 1968, at the age of 16, at a revival meeting at Welcome Hill Baptist Church in Dalton, Ga. Lee surrendered his life to serve the Lord and began his training for ministry at Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he met his future wife, Virginia Somsel. He married Virginia on Dec. 19, 1971, in Logansport, she survives.

Also surviving are a son, Kelly L. Seeley, Champaign, Ill.; a daughter, Angela J. Seeley, Danville, Ill.; one granddaughter, Cassidy: in-laws Gary and Betty Nelms, Lafayette, Elaine and Steve Hand, Crawfrodsville, and Bill and Clara Somsel, Logansport. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Lee was a band director for the last seven years at Georgetown Ridgefarm. Prior to his public school teaching career, he served the Lord for 13 years as a full-time church and Christian school music director. Over the years, his expertise in both the Christian school and public school music programs was demonstrated by winning many state and national choir and band contests.

Lee received both his Bachelor of Science in Music Education and Master of Arts in Music from Ball State University, Muncie. Prior to attending Ball State, Lee performed as a professional trombone player in the 434th U.S. Army Band at Fort Gordon, Ga., for three years.

Lee’s favorite chapter in the Bible is Psalms 103 where he thanked the Lord for all His many benefits, especially His forgiveness, mercy and loving kindness. Through his many years of illness, the Lord always showed himself faithful and God’s grace was sufficient. Lee was an active member in the music ministry of Calvary Baptist Church in Tilton. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children and church family.

Pastor Joe Hurnrichous will officiate at the funeral services Monday and will assist Pastor Fred Drye, a lifelong friend of the family, at the memorial service in Indiana. Burial will be in Ever-Rest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church, Tilton.
