Lewis E. Seeley Of Wilmington, DE, died on August 13, 1999. Mr. Seeley was born in Rushville, Illinois on August 12, 1918. He survived the sinking of the destroyer U.S.S. Rowan at Salerno, Italy on September 11, 1943. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors and was author of the book Shipmates, the chronicle of the sinking of the Rowan. When he retired from the Navy after 27 years, he worked at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire for 17 years as an Assistant Food Service Administrator. He retired to Delaware in 1984. Survivors: Wife of 56 years, Helen daughters, Mary Moring, Julia Emlen and Lorraine Buell his brother, Myron of Palm Spring, CA 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorial mass will be offered Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Catholic Church, 10 Old Church Road, Greenville, the 56th anniversary of the Rowan sinking. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th Street, Wilmington, DE 19801 would be appreciated.
