Marcus Brutus Seeley

Marcus Brutus Seeley, a highly esteemed resident of Nelson, died Friday morning. The funeral was held Sunday, Rev. Mr. Muthard, pastor of the Nelson Presbyterian church officiating; burial at Nelson.

Mr. Seeley was born in Osceola, October 29, 1847, son of Allen and Mary Ann Campbell Seeley. On April 6, 1866. he removed to Nelson and began clerking in the store of Lugg & Whitehead. He was employed in this capacity in several stores, for a number of years and then was in partnership with some of the most prominent business men in that vicinity. In 1889 he became the sole owner of the general store at Nelson and conducted it until the time of his death.

He married on January 1, 1873 Miss Susan E. Lacey. Mr. Seeley was a member of the Presbyterian church and had been a ruling elder for the past 40 years. He was a member of the Nelson Lodge of I.O.O.F.

Besides his widow he leaves two daughters, Mrs. D.Z. Goodrich, of Nelson; Mrs. Carl R. Blanchard, of Pittsfield, Mass.; two grandsons, Carl Blanchard, Jr., and Marcus Blanchard, both of Pittsfield; one sister, Mrs. Ada Cradall, of Osceola.
