Martha E. "Liz" Seeley, 78, of Thompson Street, Broadalbin, died Monday evening, September 28, 2009, at the Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville, with her family at her side. She was born in Northville on June 2, 1931, a daughter of Clifton and Leona Atherton Canfield and was a member of the Class of 1949 at Northville High School. Mrs. Seeley resided in Broadalbin since 1950. She was employed at First American Bank, Johnstown, which was formerly Bankers Trust, retiring on January 31, 1991 as a supervisor of bank tellers. Liz was a member of the Broadalbin United Methodist Church and of the Miriam Class at church. In addition, she was the chairman of the Parsonage Committee, chairman of the Benevolence Committee, a member of the Board of Trustees, and sang in the church choir. Mrs. Seeley was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Broadalbin Senior Citizens, the Broadalbin Historical Society, and a former member of the Soroptimist International of Fulton County. Liz enjoyed sewing and genealogy. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was married to Gilbert Seeley on June 24, 1950. He died on January 11, 1966. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Canfield. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth (Pat) Seeley of Thomasville, GA, and Timothy (Kim) Seeley of Amsterdam; three brothers, Clifton Canfield of Bainbridge, WA, Francis Canfield of Perth, and Delano Canfield of Edinburg; a sister, Minerva Story of Ohio; three grandchildren, Kirsten Wood, and Casey and Karli Seeley; three great-grandchildren, Mason, Elijah, and Jonah Wood; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., 38 West Main Street, Broadalbin, with the Rev. Bill Delia officiating. Burial will be at Union Mills Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home.
