MASON CITY— Martha "Mert" Seeley, 89, of 2501 W. State St., Mason City, formerly of Plymouth, died Wednesday (Jan. 5, 2005) at the Manly Care Center, Manly.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at Plymouth United Methodist Church, 508 Carter St., Plymouth, with Pastor Jim Turner officiating. Inurnment will be at the Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St. in Manly.

Martha "Mert" (Marken) Seeley was born in Bridgewater, S.D., on May 31, 1915, the daughter of George and Anna (Meirose) Marken. Martha was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian church in Bridgewater. She was a 1933 graduate of the Bridgewater High School. She moved from South Dakota to Iowa at the age of 19.

She was married to George Seeley on April 3, 1937, in Salem, S.D.

Martha and George worked for George's father at the family garage in Plymouth, and later they took over the family business until 1996. Martha and George lived in Plymouth all their lives, except for a year they lived in California.

Martha and George took many trips over the years, which included Bermuda, Spain, Acapulco, the Dominican Republic, Canada, and many states in the U.S. Martha's favorite hobby was shopping; she especially enjoyed shopping at Younkers. She also enjoyed taking night classes in Mason City and swimming lessons.

She was a member of Plymouth United Methodist Church.

Martha is survived by her two children, Gerold Seeley, San Francisco, Calif., and Dale Seeley, Garland, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Lunde, Mason City, and Helen Marken, Mitchell, S.D. Martha is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and special friends, Doris and Bob Pflieger, Plymouth.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George; a daughter, Wanda; her parents, George and Anna; two sisters, Sophia Gassel and Ann Bornhorst; and four brothers, Dick, John, Henery, and George Marken.
