Publication Max Ellsworth Seeley, 89, of Anamosa, died Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at Bickford Assisted Living in Marion. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa. The Rev. Dr. Karen Downey Beals will officiate at the service. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hazel Knoll Cemetery, rural Anamosa.

Surviving are six children, David Seeley of Anamosa, Donna Lou (Pete) Clagett of Anamosa, Darrell (Trisha) Seeley of Sedona, Ariz., Clarke (Donna) Seeley of Marion, Gail Seeley (Bernie de Leseleuc) of Shediac, New Brunswick, and Rose Anne (Dave) Steninger of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and a special companion, Pauline Norton of Anamosa.

Max was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine; wife, Evelyn; six brothers and six sisters.

Max Ellsworth Seeley was born April 2, 1922, in Anamosa, Iowa, to William Blackstone Seeley and Mary Alice (Stout) Seeley. Max was an Army veteran in World War II, serving in Germany. On April 4, 1943, Max Seeley and Catherine Finn were united in marriage in Anamosa. Catherine passed away in 1974. Max married Ruth Tharp of Marion in 1975; the couple later divorced. Max and Evelyn Bason were married in 2005. Evelyn passed away in 2008.

The family would like to thank St. Luke's Hospice team members for their kindness and care, in particular Max's nurses Zola and Judy, and also all the wonderful staff and special friends at Bickford Assisted Living.
