Owen E. Seeley, Stricken During Grid Game, Dies

Owen E. Seeley, 39, of 1241 Rosebud Lane, basketball and football official and an employe of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, died at 10:45 a.m. Monday in Mercy Hospital.

He was stricken with a heart attack Friday night while officiating a football game in Fairborn and was taken to the hospital.

Mr. Seeley was a native of Springfield, born April 3, 1922. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1940 then attended Wittenberg University before entering the Navy during World War II. He served as a radio operator with the Navy.

In high school he played basketball and football with the Wildcat teams, and was named to the All-State grid team in 1938 as a guard.

At Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Mr. Seeley was in the cryptographic section of communications.

He was a member of the Southwestern Ohio Official Association, and the Mad River Valley Umpires Association. Also, he was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church.

Survivors include his widow, Bertha; a daughter Jennie Sue, and a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Hess of Shelby, O.

His body was taken to the Littleton funeral home where friends may call from 7 p.m. Tuesday until services at 1:30 Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Ira Benton, pastor of St. Paul Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Howard Dolwich, Ben Middaugh, Art Gueth, Don Rinker, Robert Rine and Robert Wright.

Honary pallbearers will be Robert Milhoun, Ken Whaley, Larry Allen, George WInkhouse, Charles Leach, Earl Fritts, Charles Stir, Flip F. Lucas, Eldon Swanton, Pete Roberts, Carl Snapp, John Hiles, John Ervin, Elmer Bean and Bryon Hollinger.
