Richard John Seeley


VIRGINIA BEACH - Retired U.S. Navy Captain Richard "Dick" John Seeley died peacefully in his Virginia Beach home March 15, 2010 surrounded by his family. Dr. Seeley is survived by his devoted wife, Eileen Ryan Seeley; his daughter, Diane Beth Noles and her husband Stephen Noles; and two grandchildren, Richard and Russell Noles. He is also survived by numerous Maine cousins, friends and stepchildren, Peter (Elizabeth), Stephen (Norma Jean), Anastasia (Joseph) and David Schleck and stepgrandchildren, Ryan, Meagan, Kate, Nicholas; and step great- grandchildren, Victoria and Dillon. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth and by his parents, John and Gertrude Seeley. Dr. Seeley was born April 24, 1930 in Presque Isle, Maine. He graduated from Bowdoin College (B.S.), Tufts University school of Medicine (M.D.) and Tulane University (M.Ph.). He was instrumental in establishing flight-ready surgical teams on battle ships in peacetime. Among his Navy awards, he received a Legion of Merit. A longtime resident of Little Neck Cove, Dr. Seeley enjoyed civic activities, boating and gardening. The Seeley family is especially grateful for the many friends, family members, Dr. Tom Alberico and staff, and Odyssey nurse Julie Agles- Jankee and staff, who provided comfort during his illness. A funeral Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Road, followed by a reception at the church.
