RITA FRANCES SEELEY, EX-HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER

Rita Frances Seeley of Cheektowaga, a former high school teacher, died Thursday (July 1, 1999) at Millard Fillmore Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was 79.

A Buffalo native, Mrs. Seeley graduated from East High School, then received a bachelor of arts degree from the University at Buffalo in 1943.

Her first teaching job was at Eden Central School in the 1950s, and she went on to teach at Bryant and Stratton in the late 1960s before working as a business teacher at Depew High School from the late 1970s until 1982, when she retired. In the meantime, she received a master's degree in education from the University at Buffalo in 1976.

She was an active member of St. Gabriel's Church, participating in the choir and the Ladies Guild, and a former member of the choir of St. Gerald and St. Matthews. Mrs. Seeley also was a member of the Most Holy Redeemer Church Senior Citizens Club, New York State Retired Teachers Association and the Depew-Lancaster Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, James E. Seeley; a son, James E. Jr. of Apple Valley, Minn.; three sisters, Marion Bray and Rose Mary Huefner of Cheektowaga, and Grace Liebst of Smithfield, Texas; one brother, William Morlock of Elma; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at Amigone Funeral Home, 1024 French Road, Cheektowaga, followed by a 9:30 Mass of Christian Burial at St. Gabriel's Church, 5271 Clinton Street. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
