SEELEY Robert Doane "Bob" Seeley, a resident of Henrico County for the past 10 years, departed this life peacefully at the age of 94 on Tuesday, September 5, at Westminster Canterbury. He was a native of Flint, Mich., where he was president of R.D. Seeley, Inc., machining consultants and vendors of cutting tools and precision measuring instruments. Following the death of his first wife, Arlene Scott Seeley in 1972, he relocated to Columbia, S.C., where he later met and married Janet Trent Cook and lived until he and Janet came to the Richmond area. He was a member of both the Freemasons and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for more than 60 years. He and Janet were members of the First Presbyterian Church, Richmond. He earlier was a Deacon, Elder and Trustee of the First Presbyterian Church in Flint. An accomplished pianist, he played in dance bands in the early 1930s and always enjoyed accompanying himself on the piano by singing the "old songs" while entertaining friends. In Michigan, he also enjoyed golf, fishing and camping with his family and was an avid bridge enthusiast. Mr. Seeley is survived locally by his wife Janet, caring stepson and wife, James P. and Susan Cook; and stepgrandson and wife, Philip and Amanda Cook, all of Henrico County. He also is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, R. Scott and Masako Seeley of Tokyo, Japan, John and Charlotte Seeley of Bethesda, Md., and Mark and Sun Seeley of Flower Mound, Texas; his sister Bethany Klug of Oviedo, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased earlier this year by his brother, Dr. E. Clayton Seeley of Fort Myers, Fla. Mr. Seeley's ashes will be interred in Glenwood Cemetery in Flint. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Flint at a later date, as yet undetermined, when the family is able to gather. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Westminster Canterbury Foundation Fellowship Fund, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, Va. 23227 or to another charity of choice.

SEELEY, Robert Doane - Departed this life peacefully at the age of 94, on Tuesday, September 5, 2006 at Westminster Canterbury, Richmond, VA. Born July 19, 1912 in Cadillac, Bob was a native of Flint, graduating from Flint Central High School in 1929 before attending the University of Michigan. He married Arlene Faye Scott, also a Flint native, in 1935. He devoted 35 years of his life as a machining consultant and vendor of cutting tools and precision measuring instruments, first for the Pioneer Engineering and Eclipse Tool companies in the Detroit area, then under his own enterprise R.D. Seeley, Inc., in the Flint area, and finally, after a hiatus devoted to a variety of other enterprises in Columbia, SC, as a specialist with Carolina Tool Company. It was following Arlene's death in 1972 that he relocated to Columbia, SC, where he later met and married Janet Trent Cook. They lived in Richmond for the past 10 years. He was a Deacon, Elder and Trustee of First Presbyterian Church in Flint, where he earlier sang in the choir, and remained an active Presbyterian in both Columbia and Richmond. He was a member of both the Freemasons and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers for more than 60 years. Scott and Masako Seeley of Tokyo, Japan, John and Charlotte Seeley of Bethesda, MD, and Mark and Sun Seeley of Flower Mound, TX; his sister, Bethany Klug of Oviedo, FL; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, his stepson and stepdaughter-in-law James P. and Susan Cook, of Glen Allen, VA and a step-grandson. He was pre-deceased earlier this year by his brother Dr. E. Clayton Seeley of Fort Myers, FL. Bob's ashes will be interred alongside Arlene's in Glenwood Cemetery in Flint, where his parents Robert Lafayette and Clara Doane Seeley, all four grandparents and two sets of great-grandparents also are buried. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Flint at a later date, as yet undetermined, when the family is able to gather. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Weminster Canterbury Foundation Fellowship Fund, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA 23227 or to another charity of choice.

SEELEY, Robert Doane - Memorial Rites for "Bob" Seeley, past longtime resident of Flint, will be held at 11AM Saturday, November 4, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church, 746 S. Saginaw St. Bob departed this life peacefully at the age of 94 on September 5, 2006 in Richmond, VA, and his ashes have been interred in the family plot at Glenwood Cemetery in Flint. His obituary was published in this newspaper Sunday, September 17, 2006. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Westminster Canterbury Foundation Fellowship Fund, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA 23227 or to another charity of choice.
