Robert E. Seeley, age 86, passed away on May 8, 2002, at the Midtown Manor Rest Home in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was born August 22, 1915 in Skamania, Wash., to William and Grace Seeley. He served in the Army-Air Corps in mid-1940. He was a telephone cable splicer all of his career. He and his family moved to Susanville in 1961 and he retired from Citizens Utilities in Susanville.

Music was his life. He enjoyed playing music and making people happy with the old-time country and old popular music he was so fond of playing. The fiddle and guitar were the main instruments he enjoyed playing as well as a variety of other musical instruments. Playing for dances and convalescent homes in the area was of great enjoyment for him. He and his band, “Seeley’s Western Swing Band” played numerous dances locally as well as all throughout Northern California.

His parents, five brothers and one sister preceded him in death. He is survived by his two sons, Roy Seeley of Vancouver, Wash., and Louis Dahlstrom of Woodland, and his three daughters, Beverly Ormsby of Lebanon, Ore., Nadaine Betz of Springfield, Ore., and Jeanette Cowley of Chester. Bob has 17 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Private services for burial of his ashes will be held at a later date.

Former Vancouver resident Robert "Bob" E. Seeley, 86, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Mr. Seeley was born Aug. 22, 1915, in Skamania and grew up in Vancouver.

He played many musical instruments, including the fiddle, and beginning in the early 1930s played for country-western dances at grange halls in Clark County.

He moved from Vancouver to Susanville, Calif., where he lived for many years and worked as a cable splicer for the Susanville Telephone Co.

Survivors include two sons, Roy E. Seeley of Vancouver and Louis E. Dahlstrom of Woodland; three daughters, Beverly Ormsby of Lebanon, Ore., Nadine Betz of Springfield, Ore., and Jeanette Cowley of Chester, Calif.; one sister, Sue Partridge of Vancouver; one brother, Floyd Seeley of Vancouver; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

The body was cremated and will be buried in a military cemetery near Susanville at a later date.
