Velma C. Seeley, 80, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, following a long illness. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, by the Rev. Jim Turner of St. James United Methodist Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and at the chapel after noon on Wednesday.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Primrose, and a son, Craig Seeley Jr. and wife Molly, all of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Jack King of Phoenix and Claude King of Bakersfield, Calif.; four grandchildren, Michael and Christine Primrose and William and wife Jody and Rebecca Seeley; and 6 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Erik, Trey, Taylor, Jonah and Aubree.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Velma was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Cedar Rapids, to Claude and Thressa Smith King. She married Craig E. Seeley Sr. on March 7, 1946, in Cedar Rapids. He died April 26, 1978.

Velma owned and operated Seeley's Grocery with her husband for many years and then she worked in sales at Armstrong's Department Store. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and a Co-founder of New Encounters Widows Organization in 1978.
