Vera L. Seeley

Mrs. Vera L. Seeley, age 87, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 16, 2008. As a young lady she went to North Carolina where Merton was stationed with the US Army. They were married on September 2, 1944. During WWII Vera worked for Willow Run at an aircraft plant and was classified as a "Rosey the Riveter." After the war, she and Mert worked at Bissell in Grand Rapids. When her children arrived, she became a stay-at-home mom. There are many memories of their Sunday trips to Holland State Park; they were the first to arrive in the Spring and the last to leave in the Fall. Vera was an avid reader. When her children were little, there wasn't a lot of money. She made sure her children were well-cared for and had new clothing even if she wore the same outfits for years. Later in life, she made afghans and angels which have become cherished gifts to her family and friends. When Vera moved from her home to an apartment, she had a new outlook on life. She collected clothing and would disperse to others who were in need. She enjoyed playing bingo with her friends. Vera loved the Lord and took part in Bible Study at the Ambrose Ridge Apartments. She was a member of Daystar Ministries. A very caring, giving, and loving mother, Mrs. Seeley is survived by her children, Susan and Cornelius "Casey" Kalee and Pat and James Alles, all of Rockford, Robin and Dave Herbig, II and David and Jan Seeley, all of Comstock Park; step-son, James and Judy Brower of Virginia; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Lucretia Fox of Wyoming, MI; and nieces and nephews; and her Bobbsey twin, Irene. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merton Seeley on October 3, 1986; sisters, Dorothy White, and Hazel Dent; brothers, George Hall and William Hall. The service for Mrs. Seeley will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Glenn Smith officiating. Interment in Courtland Twp. Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider World Hope International. Friends may meet with Vera's family from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
