SCHENECTADY Vincent M. Seeley, 58, of Schenectady, formerly of Greene County, died at home September 8, 2006, in the arms of his loving family. Born in Beacon, N.Y. in 1948, he was the was the son of the late Vincent A. and Louise (Berinato) Seeley. He was raised in Wappingers Falls. Vincent received his associate in arts degree from Dutchess Community College, graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of arts degree from the State University of New York College at Fredonia and received his master's degree from the State University of New York College at New Paltz. Vince was a teacher. He gave his entire career to students of the Greenville Central School district, teaching there from 1971 until he retired in 2000. He taught social studies, advanced placement economics and the alternative education program. He was known as a remarkable and distinguished educator. He loved his students and followed their accomplishments with pride. A leader of the teachers union, he served as president of the Greenville Faculty Association for many years. Vince loved the sport of curling and was a member of the Albany Curling Club. He was a former member of Thunderhart Golf Course in Freehold and enjoyed playing in leagues at Thunderhart and Stadium Golf Club. He also loved animals and rescued pets throughout his life. Mr. Seeley is survived by his wife Sherrie (Close) Seeley; his son, Noel Seeley of Schenectady; his sister, Sandra (Stephen) Empert of Gloucester, Va.; his father and mother-in-law who loved him like a son, Donald and Nina Close; several nieces, nephews; cousins; a host of dear friends and his beloved dog and faithful companion, Erin. Vincent's family thanks all those who helped during his struggle with cancer. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m. at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 900 Madison Ave., Albany on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Christian Children's Fund, 2821 Emerywood Pkwy., Richmond, VA 23294.
