Walter Clifton "Junior" Seeley, 77, a lifetime resident of Wakefield, died Friday, April 22, 2005.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1927, in Richmond, the son of the late Walter C. and Pauline Anderson Seeley. Junior was a member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church. He was a bugler in the U.S. Army during World War II. He played trombone in the Dixieland Band "The Firehouse Five" during the 1950s and 60s. He was very proud to have played with "The Virginians," a well-known local dance band. He was a founding member of the vocal quartet, "Generations," and was an active and beloved member of his church choir. Junior was a retired peanut buyer and mill manager for Golden Peanut Company.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Nan Bland Seeley; three sons, Mr. and Mrs. Mark E. Seeley of Wakefield, Mr. and Mrs. Scott P. Seeley of Wakefield and Dr. and Mrs. Jeffrey A. Seeley of Cincinnati, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Joy S. Kelley of New Port Richey, Fla.; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Louise P. Seeley, and his brother, John L. "Jack" Seely.

A celebration of Junior's life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 24, in the Wakefield United Methodist Church, Wakefield, Va., with the Rev. Dr. Don Jones, Rev. G.C. Branton III and the Rev. Dick Carter officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Wakefield Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association (chapter of your choice) or to the Wakefield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 87, Wakefield, VA 23888. The family will receive friends at the residence, 11400 Brittle's Mill Road, Wakefield. Purviance Funeral Home of Wakefield is handling the arrangements.
