Howard Seeley, of Maitland died Saturday at age of 81

Funeral services were held here Monday morning for Howard Seeley, 81, of Maitland, who died in hospital Saturday afternoon, August 12. Mr. Seeley had entered St. Lawrence Lodge about a month ago, then was taken to hospital within the last two weeks.

A lifelong resident of the area, William Howard Seeley was born at Stone’s Corners on December 24, 1896, son of the late Robert Seeley and the former Mary Jane Loughridge.

For many years Mr. Seeley operated a trucking business and was associated with the Borden cheese plant in Maitland until it closed. He then took up farming, retiring in 1966.

A member of St. James Masonic Lodge No. 74, South Augusta, he was very well known and highly regarded in the area. A Presbyterian by faith, he supported St. James’ Anglican church in Maitland.

Mr. Seeley was very fond of horses and also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, the former Geraldine Orr, and one son, Clare B. Seeley, supervisor of education for Renfrew County; and four grandchildren, Mrs. Jeff Dillon (Cheryl) of Kingston, Robyn, Kim and Ritchie Seeley, all of Renfrew. He also leaves close friends, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Brownell and family of Brockville.

Mr. Seeley was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Alex Brown (Laura) and Mrs. George Selleck (Bertha), a number of years ago.

Private funeral services were conducted from the Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James street east, on Monday morning at 11 o’clock, by Rev. Harrison Flint, followed by interment in St. James’ cemetery, Maitland.

The pallbearers were Richard Dumbrille, Don Irvine, William Ferguson, Charlie Bradley and Ken Perrin.
