L.D. Seely Jr. passed away on June 28, 2013, at the age of 80. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Lamesa Memorial Park with Mark Hackett officiating, under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2013, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. L.D. Seely was born April 5, 1933, in O'Donnell, Texas, to Dee and Estelle (Echols) Seely. He grew up in Ackerly and graduated from Ackerly High School. L.D. married Oleta Franks in 1952. After serving in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, L.D. was involved in farming and worked for over 50 years in the grocery business in both Ackerly and Lamesa. L.D. and his wife Oleta were presented the Honorary Chapter Farmer Award for their contributions and service to the Lamesa FFA Chapter, as recognition of their many years of support. L.D. is survived by his wife of 60 years, Oleta Seely of Lamesa; his daughter, Ann Seely Hughes and husband, Terry Hughes, of Allen; grandson, Tyler Dee Hughes of College Station; sisters in-law, Marie Franks Winslett, Patsy Franks O'Neil, Novell Franks Griffin, all of Lamesa, and Oneta Franks White and husband, Dick White, of Fort Worth; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and baby daughter, Susan Lynn Seely. The family suggests memorials to The Children's Home Foundation, PO Box 2449, Lubbock, TX, 79408.
