L. John Seely, Retired Steelworker, Dies At 65

FRANKLIN – L. John Seely, 65, of Cochranton RD 4, a retired employe of Franklin Steel Division, died at 5 a.m. Saturday in Franklin Hospital.

He was born in Canal Township June 16, 1911, a son of Daniel and Lottie Heffernan Seely.

He was employed for many years at Franklin Steel and took a medical retirement November 14, 1973.

His first wife, Caroline, died May 16, 1969. He was married to the former Isabelle Hart September 27, 1969. She survives.

He was a member of the Canal Wesleyan Methodist Church and active in church work.

Surviving along with his wife, Mrs. Isabelle Seely, are three sons, Ronald G. and James Seely of Cochranton and Norman R. Seely of Salem, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Pauline) Shirley of Cooperstown, Mrs. Richard (Jean) Philips of Troy, Ohio, and Mrs. David (Wanda) Jewell of Pearl: 10 grandchildren, 22 step-grandchildren and 4 step great-grandchildren.

Ten step-children survive. They are Mrs. Harry (Ruth) Wilson of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Ruby Baker of Lake Tahoe, Calif., Mrs. Leland (Shirley) Sundstrom of Salem, Ohio, Eugene Baker of Yucaipa, Calif., Charles Elmer Baker of North Ogden, Utah, Robert Paul Baker of Culver City, Calif., Donald Glen Baker of Albuquerque, N.M., James L. Baker of Franklin, Clair D. Baker of Charleroi and Vernon Lee Baker of Cochranida.

Two sisters, Mrs. Carl (Sylvia) Cotterman of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs. James (Georgia) Bruner of Franklin, survive along with a brother, Daniel (Jay) Seely of Franklin.

A brother, Clair Seely, died in 1948.

Removal was made to the Burger-Gardinier Funeral Home.
