R. Bruce Seely

R. Bruce Seely 1946 ~ 2014

R. Bruce Seely, born October 18, 1946, Salt Lake City Utah, passed away on January 22, 2014, from acute pulmonary edema. His parents were Eva Tolman and Que H. Seely, originally of Sanpete County, Utah. He grew up in Mount Pleasant, Utah, attending North Sanpete High School where he was active playing football and basketball. Beginning in high school and continuing into midlife, his passion was training and pulling draft horses. He attended Snow College and served a 2-year mission for the LDS Church in the Western States Mission. He then married Dorothy Sessions, daughter of Lena Bowler and Ivan David Sessions of Bountiful, Utah in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He began his career as a woodworker at Intermountain Furniture, and later became a truck driver at System 99. He was promoted into management at Viking Freight, and later at FedEx Freight. He has always been an active and faithful member of the LDS church, serving willingly wherever asked and living his beliefs. He had a severe case of 'fanmania,' following BYU football with a devotion and fervor that approached obsession. He was a fixture in the north end-zone of the stadium at every game. He loved his children and grandchildren and supported them by attending all of their activities. In particular, he loved to coach youth soccer. He suffered from diabetes later in life, and depended on his scooter to motor around. Undeterred, he continued to ride his scooter up and down the sidelines to coach and cheer-on kids. He masked his larger-than-life kind heart, which those who loved him most knew well, with his large stature and beard. In a word, in life and in his relationships R. Bruce was a builder. He wasn't the firefighter-type of person - he wasn't going to drop everything and arrive at the moment of crisis. Instead, as a builder, he was there for people for years and years, walking alongside people and going the distance with them. His love and acceptance of others is sincerely missed by his friends and family. He is survived by wife, Dorothy Ann Sessions Seely of West Jordan, UT; and children Chet Q. Seely de Fontanez (Gilbert Fontanez de Seely) of Philadelphia, PA; Tiffany Ann Seely Vought (Cory Vought) of West Jordan, UT; Jacob Richard Seely of Wyzata, MN; and ex-daughters in law, Rebecca Larsen Olsen of Milwaukee, WI; Camille Sherman of Minneapolis, MN; and sister Tonga Seely Titcomb (Ronald Titcomb) of Taylorsville, UT; and granddaughters Madison Seely, Ashlyn Vought, Kayla Seely; and grandsons Tate Seely, Porter Vought, J. Cole Seely, Larsen Seely, Carson Vought and Asher Seely. He is preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Lisa Marie Seely. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00 am, at the Jordan Oaks 6th Ward, 8117 S. Leslie Drive (3905 W.) West Jordan. A viewing will be held the evening before at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 1007 W. South Jordan Pkwy, South Jordan, from 6-8pm, and at the chapel an hour before (9:45 am) before the funeral services. Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant City Cemetery, East 800 South Street Mount Pleasant, UT 84647. Online condolences at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
