Steven Lewis Seely


WYOCENA -- Steven Lewis Seely, age 63, of Wyocena, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at his home in Wyocena.

Steve was born on Dec. 4, 1942, in Portage, the son of Richard C. and Mary E. (Lurvey) Seely. He grew up in Wyocena, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and all outdoor activities. He was a 1961 graduate from Pardeeville High school, where he played football and basketball. He attended the University at La Crosse. Steve worked at the game farm in Poynette, and later worked at the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. He was united in marriage to Suzanne Ashley. Two children blessed their marriage. In 1991, Steve retired, partly due to the effects of MS, which he was diagnosed with in his early 20s. He lived in Wyocena, where he kept his yard neat with a riding lawn mower. He also had a golf cart which helped him get out and about, enjoying a day at the park.

Memorial services for Steven Seely will be held on Friday evening, March 3, 2006, at 5:30 p.m., at the Smith Funeral Home in Pardeeville. Pastor Dennis Weis will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Marcellon Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Pardeeville on Friday from 4 p.m. until time of service.

He is survived by his daughter, Wendy, and grandson, Jace, of Wyocena; mother, Mary E. Seely of Portage; brothers, Richard M. (Eleanor) of Portage, and Scott of Oregon; nieces, Lisa Peterson of Rio, Jeannette Seely of Hilo, Hawaii; nephews, Terry Seely of Columbus and R.C. Seely II of New York; great nephews, Jacob and Zachary Peterson of Rio and Austin Seely of Portage; sister-in-law, Naomi Seely of Hilo, Hawaii; cousins, Sharon (Charles) Marquardt of Eau Claire and Dorothy (Richard) Taylor of Madison; his former wife, Suzanne Seely of Pardeeville; and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan, in 1991; father, Richard C. Seely; and brother, Patrick John.

Steve will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Special thanks to his many friends that stopped by to visit; and thanks to his brother "Mike" who kept his spirits up and did many jobs around the house for Steve.
