Steven P. Seely


STANLEY/NEWARK - Steven P. Seely, 55, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (May 3, 2015).

Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday (May 8) at the Paul L. Murphy & Sons Funeral Home, 127 East Miller Street, Newark. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday (May 9) at St. Michael Church, South Main Street, Newark. Burial will be in the East Newark Cemetery.

The family request that memorials, in Steve's name, be made to any local fire department of your choice.

Steve was born in Ithaca and came to Newark with his family when he was one year old and was a 1978 graduate of Newark High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Sue Celso on December 12, 1981. Beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandpa "Papa," and friend. Steve's love of life was obvious to all that knew him. His sense of humor made him a friend to all. He was known by so many people for his generous spirit and willingness to help anyone who needed it. He was a member of the AMA and raced motorcycle Flat-track and Enduro racing with his brothers. Also drag racing his hand-built tube-chassis Pro-Stock Beretta, reaching 187 mph in 7.63 seconds in a quarter mile. Steve owned and operated Seely Engine Machine, Seely Heavy Duty and RightWay Industrial in Stanley. He became a Fire Commissioner for the Stanley Fire Department. Steve was a member of the Penn Yan Flying Club.

Steve will be sorely missed by his wife of 33 years, Mary; his children, Sarah (Mark) Phillips of Geneva, Mat (Jenny Snyder) of Stanley, Chris of Stanley and Gracie (Kyle) Kuhner of Naples; his grandchildren, Jeffrey and Ryan Phillips and Kova Kuhner; his parents, Dorla and Jim Seely of Newark; his brothers, Jerry (Laurie) and Craig (Joan) Seely both of Newark.

He was predeceased by his brother, Jeff; and his in-laws Bernie and Kathy Celso. Bernie's birthday was May 3rd and shared a love of flying with Steve.
