WALTER SAYER SEELY, JR.

Walter Sayer Seely, Jr, 85, died on November 13, 2012, at home in Sun City, AZ. He was born on August 19, 1927 in Pine Island, NY to Walter S. Seely and Katherine Wern Seely. Walter, known as "Sonny" to many, spent most of his life in Warwick where he worked for Lehigh & Hudson River Railroad, Laroe Sawmill and Park Avenue School. He attended Ryder College in Trenton, NJ, and was a NY State Guard Bugler for three years following his US Navy World War II service.
As an active member of the Warwick community, he was a member for over 50 years of the Raymond Hose Fire Company, Warwick Community Ambulance Corp., and IOOF. He was a charter member of O. C. Fire Chief's Assn. and an member and past president of Whippoorwill Hunting Club in Beaverbrook, NY. He also served in the American Legion Post 214 for over 65 years, additionally he belonged to: Warwick Masonic Lodge (past master), Middletown NY Chapter and Comandry and Shrine of Albany, NY, Tall Cedars and Middletown Elks. Walt retired with his wife Mary, to Sun City, AZ in 2003.
Walt is survived by his loving wife, Mary Holbert Seely and three children: Walter Seely III and his wife, Dottie of Longmont, CO; Katherine Christensen and husband, Boyd of Phoenix, AZ; and Mark Seely, also of Phoenix, AZ. Eight grandchildren: Becky Seely of Denver, CO; James Christensen and wife, Stacie and great grandchild Brody of Chandler, AZ and Megan and Jake Schmidt of Tempe, AZ; Joseph Somborovich, Janethe, Ashley, Marykate and Mark Jr. of the Mark Seely family. He is also survived by two nephews, John Townsend and Richard Townsend. Walter was predeceased by his mother and father, his sister, Betty Jane Townsend and her husband, J. Raymond Townsend.
A Celebration of Life open house was held by the family at his home in Sun City, AZ on Nov. 19. Plans for Internment in Warwick, NY are directed to spring 2013.
