Warner Seely, VP of Area Firm, Dies

Warner Seely, 74, retired vice president of Warner & Swasey Co., died yesterday in Hanna House of University Hospitals.

Mr. Seely came to Cleveland from Brockport, N.Y., and began work at Warner & Swasey in 1913. He retired as vice president of public relations in 1958, but remained on the board of directors until 1960.

During his years here he headed various organizations including the Cleveland Engineering Society, Citizens League, Friends of the Cleveland Public Library, Cleveland Audubon Society and the Industrial Division of the Community Fund.

He served as a trustee of the Natural Science Museum, Equity Savings & Loan Co., Cleveland Residences, Wade Park Manor, Inner-City Protestant Parish and the Cleveland Health Museum.

Mr. Seely also served as a deacon, elder and trustee of Church of the Covenant. He belonged to the Union Club, Cleveland Skating Club, Cleveland Astronomical Society, Cleveland Museum of Art and Western Reserve Historical Society.

He was on the Council of National Defense in Washington, D.C. during World War I.

During recent years he collected early American clocks and became an active member of the National Watch and Clock Collectors Association.

Mr. Seely and his wife, the former Emma L. Lester, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 30.

His wife, two daughters, Mrs. William B. Condit and Mrs. T. Lawrie Jackson; a brother, and 12 grandchildren survive. He lived at 12526 Cedar Road, Cleveland Heights.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Church of the Covenant, 11205 Euclid Ave.
