Willis Seely, World War I Veteran, Dies

Willis P. Seely, 74, of 564 Halyday Run Road, a retired railroader and veteran of World War I, died at 11:35 p.m. Wednesday in the Oil City Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born April 18, 1894, at Wallaceville, a son of E. Dayton and Jane Oram Seely, and had resided at his present address for the past 50 years.

Mr. Seely was a veteran of Army duty during World War I, holding the rank of sergeant with Co. C., 138th Engineers. He entered the service July 25, 1918, at Oil City and was discharged Dec. 7, 1919, at Fort Benjamin Harris, Ind.

The local man worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad for over 50 years, retiring seven years ago.

Mr. Seely was a member of the Lamey United Methodist Church and the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

Mr. Seely, whose hobby was gardening and raising flowers, played baseball in the old Hayrake League for many years.

He was married Dec. 26, 1918 to the former Ruby R. Stuck who preceded him in death Feb. 1, 1968.

Mr. Seely is survived by two sons, Wayne R. Seely of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Arden D. Seely of Halyday Run Road; one daughter, Mrs. Louis (Mary) Kay of Oil City; one brother, Clare O. Seely of Oil City; and 10 grandchildren.

Friends are being received in the Osenider Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth Rippen, pastor of the Lamey United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be in Lamey Cemetery.
