James L. Seely

Seely, James L. (28 JUL 1862 - 9 DEC 1918)

J. L. Seely, member of the Humbird, Clark County, Wis. band and three years ago landlord of the local hotel, died suddenly at his home in Merrillan last Monday night of heart disease. Mr. Seely had usually attended the band rehearsals here Monday evenings, since he became a member of the band, and had missed very few. This week, however, he had not been feeling well so did not attend. He passed away shortly after midnight Monday night. Undertaker M. Kretschmer was called to Merrillan to prepare the remains fro burial, and they were taken to his former home at Durand, Wis. for interment.

Mr. Seely moved to Merrillan after leaving the hotel here and purchased the Nolop Restaurant, which he was conducting at the time of his death. He leaves a wife, one daughter and two sons, who have the sympathy of many friends here in their loss.

James L. Seely died at his home in Merrillan, Dec. 9, 1918, of bronchial pneumonia, at the age of 56 years, 4 months and 12 days.

Mr. Seely was born in West Auburn, Susquehanna Co., Penn., his parents moving to Jefferson Co., Wis. when he was about 4 years old, living there until the summer of 1869, when they moved to Durand, where he resided until about three years ago, when he moved to Humbird, Clark County, engaging in the hotel business, where he remained for one years, then moved to Merrillan, engaging in the restaurant and confectionery business until his death. Short funeral services were held at his home Thursday afternoon, the remains being taken to Durand for interment on the early train Friday morning.
