COCHRANTON — James R. Seely, 69, of Old Franklin Pike, Cochranton, died Friday, May 7, 2010, at Meadville Medical Center.

Born Feb. 17, 1941, in Cochranton, he was the son of Lawrence J. and Caroline Hart Seely. He married Joan DuPont on March 5, 1966; she survives.

He worked in the maintenance department at Franklin Area School District for 43 years and retired in 2006.

He was a member of Donation Hill Community Church, the Alleghany Highland Pulling Association, the Lucky 13 CBers Club and the Tri County Mini Pullers Club.

Recently, he had been working with his son at Seely's Small Engine Repair Shop in Hannaville.

He enjoyed rebuilding pulling tractors and was an avid sprint car racing fan.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, he is survived by a son, Brian Seely of Cochranton; three sisters, D. Pauline Shirley and her husband, Lawrence, of Cooperstown, B. Jean Phillips and her husband, Richard, of Troy, Ohio, and Wanda Jewell and her husband, David, of Carlton; two brothers, Ronald G. Seely and his wife, Louise, of Cochranton, and Norman R. Seely of Salem, Ohio; his mother-in-law, Cora Alice DuPont of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at Dickson Family Funeral Home Inc., 123 S. Franklin St., Cochranton, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dale Adams of Donation Hill Community Church officiating.

Interment will be in Peters Cemetery, Venango County.
