J. Kent Seely


J. Kent Seeley, 73, 319 E. Oak St. Orrville, died May 26 at Glendora Health Care Center, after an 18 month illness.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville. Burial will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orville, where military rites will be conducted by the Orrville American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Friends may call Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Wayne County Branch, 560 Winter St., Wooster 44691.

He was born Dec. 30, 1919 in Detroit, to John A. and Alta (Swanger) Seely and married Jane Middleton on Nov. 25, 1943 in Tampla, Fla. She died Dec. 15, 1980.

He was a 1938 graduate of Apple Creek High School and served from 1942-45 in the U.S. Army Air Corp, attaining the rank of staff sergeant.

He was employed at Dunlap Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department, retiring in 1989. After retirement, he worked part-time at Hoffman Electric in Orrville as an electrician.

He was a member of the Wayne County Coin Club and the Orrville Coin Club. For more than 36 years he was a member of the Orrville Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Marian Kaye) Franks of Wooster and Mrs. Randy (SusanL.) Shanklin of Orrville; grandsons Robert Franks Jr. of Wooster and Daryl R. Smith of Orrville and grandson and wife, Roy Kent and Deb Franks of Creston; a sister, Julia G’Nell Abel, of Auburn, Ind.; and a brother, Loren Swanger, of Willoughby.

His parents died previously.
