Publication Katherine J. Seely, 81 of Parma, passed away Friday, Feb. 2, 2007 at a Nampa hospital surrounded by her family. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6 at Kirkpatrick Memorial Community Church, Parma with Rev. John Murphy officiating. Services are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Condolences may be made to the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com Katherine was the first child born to Thomas R. and Harriett Pond Jenkins on May 31, 1925 at Pocatello, Idaho. She graduated from Sugar Salem High School in 1942 then attended Utah State University at Logan, Utah. While there, Katherine was elected student body vice-president, was a member of Alpha Chi Omega and was selected to be listed in Whose Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges 1945-46 edition. She graduated with a degree in Child Development Elementary Education. Katherine met and married Preston D. Seely on Dec. 27, 1946 while still attending USU. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Suzanne, Carolyn and Jody. Preston and Katherine ranched for a year in Colorado before moving to Pocatello where Preston attended Pharmacy school at Idaho State. After he graduated, they purchased the drug store in Parma from Katherine´s father and in 1953 they established Seely Drug, later expanding into several Super Thrift Drug stores throughout the valley. Katherine taught school only 1 1/2 years and kept books for their business for 44 years. She and Preston were married for 54 years before he passed away in the spring of 2001. Katherine was a member of Kirkpatrick Memorial Community Church serving several terms as an elder and served offices in Parma Chapter B.D. of P.E.O. She also loved volunteering her time to young people by teaching Sunday School, United Presbyterian Youth and being very instrumental in the foundation of Girl Scouting in Parma. Katherine´s home was always open to the community youth, and especially to the friends of her girls. Katherine is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Jim) Seals, Carolyn (Mike) Cramer and Jody (Steve Ryals) Seely; six grandchildren, Jamie McElvenny, Jeff Seals, J.P. Cramer, Sam Cramer, Sarah Seely Anderson and Brock Anderson; and six great-grandchildren and one on the way. Katherine´s family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff and friends at Karcher Estates for all the tender loving care they gave to her in her home away from home.
