SEELY, LILLIAN ELINORE February 1, 1917 to June 3, 2002 L. "Elinore" Skinner Seely, 85, of Pt. Loma died unexpectedly, on Monday, June 3. She was born in Albany, N.Y. and was a cruise consultant in San Diego for more than 30 years. She came to San Diego with her parents via ship through the Panama Canal when she was 6 years old. She attended Hoover High and San Diego City College and worked for Safeway, and PacBell in the 30's and 40's. She married Kermit A. Seely in 1943 and shared 52 years together until his death in 1995. Elinore had a love for shipboard travel and followed in her father's footsteps as a travel agent to help others explore the world via its rivers and oceans. During her lifetime she felt privileged to have sailed on 36 ships to 50 countries. With Kermit, she was active in The San Diego Yacht Club and could be found there most every Thursday with her "Thursday Group" of ladies, playing volley tennis in the early years and cards in later life. She recently served as assistant editor on a book about the S.D. Yacht Club's history. As Kermit was an active and well-known yachtsman, the two were often involved in special projects. In 1967, Kermit served as navigational advisor in the America's Cup Defender Series in Newport, R.I. for the West-Coast Syndicate (12-meter "Columbia"). Elinore was an historian. She was an active member and volunteer for many organizations including: The Thursday Club, the San Diego Yacht Club, Pt. Loma Community Church, Star of India Aux., Children's Hospital - Silvergate Unit, Hoover High School Alumni Assn., the Zoological Society and the Balboa Park Millennium Society. Survivors include a son, Paul, and his wife, Donna Clark, of Mission Beach; a daughter, Martha Baker, and her husband, Scott, of Carmel Valley; and two granddaughters, Melinda and Diana Baker. Services will be private. A celebration of life is planned for July. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Assn., San Diego Yacht Club, or Children's Hospital Fdn.
