LINDA BYRD SEELY, 74, died peacefully on the 25th of August 2009 at home in Houston, Texas. She was born on the 14th of January 1935 in Houston, Texas, and was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Clifton Byrd, and her husband, Dwight H. Seely, Jr. Following her education at the University of Arizona and The University of Mexico in Mexico City, Linda went to work as a Manhattan-based flight attendant for Pan American Airways in the 1950's and 60's, traveling throughout North and South America, Europe, and the Pacific. She later returned to Houston, and from there continued to travel the world over with her late husband, Dwight, President of Trunkline LNG. Linda was an accomplished golfer and devoted member of Lakeside Country Club, where she served on numerous committees and boards, and played gin rummy on a regular basis. She was going for her tenth hole-in-one on the day she started her battle with cancer. When not on an airplane, at the card table, or on the golf course, Linda was an avid reader and crossword puzzle fan who cherished words, stories, and the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge and charity. She was a long time member of The Blue Bird Circle and of P.E.O., and she was an advocate and spokesperson for the National Societies for the Protection Against Cruelty to Animals and Children. Linda is survived by her brother, Clifton Byrd, Jr. and wife Kathleen; sister Liza Byrd Kutner; nieces Kate Lloyd Kutner and Kristen Byrd Summers; nephews Malcolm J. Kutner III and Carter Clifton Byrd; her late husband Dwight's children, Anne Seely Havard and husband Kenneth and their children, Dr. Kenneth Seely Havard and wife Sarah, and John David Havard; Christine Seely Schoellman and children; and Dwight David Seely. She also leaves to mourn her passing a longtime family friend, Juanita Allen, and a faithful companion, Putter. The family thanks many friends for their prayers during the past few weeks. Our thanks also go to Dr. H. Alejandro Preti and his staff, the 8NW oncology team at Methodist Hospital, and Houston Hospice. The memorial service for Linda will be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Monday, the 31st of August at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Drive in Houston, where Linda was a member since the 18th of September 1949.
