Lyda Marie Seely


Lyda Marie Seely, 99, Clinton, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Golden Living Center-Westwood, Clinton. Lyda was born Dec. 1, 1908, in Henry County, the daughter of John and Nancy Hostin. She had one brother and three sisters, all who have preceded her in death. She graduated from Clinton High School and taught at Deer Creek School in Henry County. On Aug. 30, 1933, in Ashland, Kansas, Lyda married Glen Seely. In 1950 they moved to Leeton where they owned and operated Seely's Grocery. Here is where they chose to retire. Glen and Lyda were married 62 years. Glen preceded her in death in 1996. Later in 2000 Lyda moved to Clinton. Lyda joined the Christian Church at the age of nine. She was a faithful member active in the Ladies Aid and Mary and Martha Study Group. Her home was always open for church activities and she and Seely faithfully sat at the pew each Sunday at the Christian Church in Leeton. Lyda was also a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. Lyda leaves two nieces and a nephew, Phyllis M. Jones of Clinton, Constance Banwart, Fort Scott, Kansas, John Harl Campbell of Lake Ozark; numerous great-nieces, nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Graveside services were Tuesday, March 25.
