Lynford R. Seely
of Walton, N.Y.

Lynford R. Seely, resident of Walton, N.Y. and Haines City, Fla., formerly of Apalachin, N.Y., died Friday, January 5, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer, with his loving wife and children at his side in his home in Haines City. He was 70. Lyn was born on February 28, 1936, son of the late Frank and Beatrice Laidlaw Seely. A 1953 graduate of Walton Central School, Lyn became a certified welder and was employed by Binghamton Metal. Lyn had a passion for trucks that began years earlier on his father's registered Holstein and cauliflower farm. That passion ultimately lead to a lifelong career in transportation that began at Breakstones Foods in Walton in 1956, the same year he married his wife of 50 years, Helen LaTourette. After a long career at Breakstones, Lyn worked for several other transportation and construction companies in the area. In the 1970's together with his brother-in-law he formed Bru-Lyn Construction, during which time he became a skilled heavy equipment operator. From the early 1980's until retirement, Lyn most enjoyed being an owner operator, contracting with area companies. The Seely's relocated to Apalachin, N.Y., where they lived for many years until Lyn's retirement from hauling liquid asphalt for Barrett Paving Materials. For the past several years, Lyn had enjoyed wintering in Florida, most recently in Haines City, where he could work from time to time driving trucks for his nephews and a local Peterbuilt dealership, always making time for a game of shuffleboard with his cherished friends of Central Park II. Lyn was a lifetime member of the Walton United Presbyterian Church and recently attended the New Hope Community Church of Walton. He was a past councilman on the Walton Town Board. Lyn was a past certified CDL instructor for the area BOCES. Lyn was a member of the Delaware Campers and the Walton CB Club. Lyn enjoyed camping, especially cross-country traveling to visit family and friends by motorcoach. Lyn was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Jean Seely; his brother-in-law, Bruce LaTourette; and his daughter-in law, Patty Seely. Lyn is survived by his loving wife, Helen, at home in Haines City; his daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and Chris Lavell, Goshen, N.Y., and Jeanne and Steve Cherniak, Bainbridge, N.Y.; his son, Frank Seely, Hancock, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Michael, Emily and Justin Lavell, Anthony and Carmella Seely, and Xavier and Theodore Cherniak; cousins, Freda Bailey, Slingerlands, N.Y., Bill (Mona) Vail, Phoenix, Ariz., Marilyn (Will) Eustice, Henderson, Nev., Carl (Janet) Gregory, Bruce Gregory and Barbara Tyler, Walton, Doris Sperbeck and Reggie(Clara) Seeley, Oneonta, Gordon (Willow) Seeley, Delaware; and several close nieces and nephews. Lyn was a loving, patient husband, father, and grandfather. He considered anyone who made his acquaintance, his good friend.
