Sioux Falls - Marvin Edward Seely of Sioux Falls, SD died Thursday, January 20, 2005 at his winter home in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 77.

Marv was born June 16, 1927 to Melvin and Ida (Frager) Seely in Blunt, SD. He attended school in Blunt, Junius and Madison before entering the United States Army on February 13, 1946. He was honorably discharged on August 27, 1947.

Marv was united in marriage to Verna Ione Eastman on August 7, 1948 in Luverne, MN. In addition to helping his father-in-law, Chester Eastman, manage the family farm, Marv worked briefly for Northwestern Bell before beginning a 42 year career at John Morrell and Company in Sioux Falls, retiring in 1990 as a Divisional Superintendent.

Grateful for Marv's life are his wife of 56 years, Verna, son, Tim (Ilene) of Smithfield, VA, daughters, Roberta (Barry) Jacobson, Valerie (Wade) Merry, Tanya (Brad) Carlson, all of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Jason (Melody) Seely, Angie Seely, Dustin Carlson, Ashton Carlson, Derek Carlson, Ben Merry, Alex Merry and step great-grandson, Jay Conoway.

Marv was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Clara, and his son, Kevin.

The family asks that memorials be directed to the First Congregational Church Camp Krof in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services have been set for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at First Congregational Church. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 25, 2005 with family present from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home 13th and Main.
