Mary J. "Jan" Seely


MASON CITY - Mary J. "Jan" Seely, 69, of 638 Sixth St. S.E., Mason City, died Wednesday (Sept. 23, 2009) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Michael Schueller officiating. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel.

Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the Senior Citizens Center in Mason City.

Jan was born Sept. 21, 1940, the daughter of James and June (Palmer) Tenney, in Mason City. She received her education at the Mason City Township (Central Heights School) and St. Joseph's School in Mason City. She married Philip Clark Seely on July 11, 1968, in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Mary was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the BPO Does, in which she was president in 1977 and state treasurer in 1978, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, and a member of the Women of the Moose, having held a couple of offices.

She was also a life time member of the U.S.S. Wisconsin Association, and a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

She is survived by her six daughters, Christina Marie Eldridge of Summerville, S.C., Patricia June Hjelle of Mason City, Ann Marie Shaffer of Des Moines, Mary Jo (Vern) Duffield of Lake City, Minn., Kimberly Kay Alejandre of Lodi, Calif., and Michelle Lynn Hathaway of Mason City; stepsons, Tony, Pat and Tim Seely; 26 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, a brother, Jerome (Jean) Tenney, of Goose Creek, S.C.; and a sister, Joy Martzahl, of Burchinal.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, Scott, a brother, James, and her mother and father-in -law.
