Mary Louise Thompson Seely, 85, a past member of the women's board of Columbia Hospital for Women and a past volunteer at the hospital's thrift shop, died of pneumonia May 20 at her home in Washington after a stroke.

She was a past member of the Junior League of Washington, St. David's Episcopal Church in Washington, the Sulgrave Club women's club and the Perennial Garden Club.

She was born in Washington and grew up in Asheville, N.C. She attended Hood College in Frederick and lived in North Carolina before settling in the District in 1940.

Her husband, James Grove Seely, died in 1997.

Survivors include two sons, James Grove Seely Jr. of San Francisco and Contee Thompson Seely of Berkeley, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mary Louise Thompson Seely, a homemaker, died of aspiration pneumonia due to a stroke on May 20 at her Washington home. She was 85.

Mrs. Seely was born in Washington and reared in Asheville, N.C. She attended Hood College in Frederick, Md., and married James Grove Seely of Asheville in 1934.

They moved back to Washington in 1940.

Mrs. Seely was a member of the Junior League of Washington for many years, as well as the Women's Board of Columbia Hospital for Women, where she worked as a volunteer in the thrift shop.

She was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church, the Sulgrave Club and the Perennial Club.

Mrs. Seely is survived by two sons, James Grove Seely Jr. of San Francisco and Contee Thompson Seely of Berkeley, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband died in 1997.

Services will be held today at St. David's Episcopal Church at 5150 Macomb St. NW. The interment will occur at Rock Creek Cemetery in the District.
