Mary Seely


Services will be March 25 for Mary Seely, who died March 12 in Watsonville. She was 93.

Mrs. Seely was born in Rugby, N.D. and grew up in North Dakota, Saskatchewan, Canada, Watertown, S.D., and Glendale, where she completed high school. She was married five times and had one child who passed away at six months of age. She had numerous careers, including beautician, photographer, restaurateur, artist and antiques dealer. She owned and operated the Branding Iron Restaurant in Jamul for eight years. Later, she concentrated on antique and jewelry buying and selling and making art. She moved to Watsonville in the early 1970s.

SURVIVORS: Nieces Hester Bogues of San Francisco; Dorothy Strege of Sacramento, Carolyn Flower of El Cajon, Martha Neuman and Diane Avila of Dexter, Ore.; and nephews Larry Curtis of Reno, Nev. and James Curtis of Dexter, Ore.

SERVICES: 11 a.m. March 25 at St. Patrick's Church, 721 Main St., Watsonville.

Mary Seely

Mary Seely died in her sleep Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in Watsonville. She was 93.

Born in Rugby, N.D., Mrs. Seely grew up in North Dakota; Saskatchewan, Canada; Watertown, S.D.; and finished high school in Glendale. She held many jobs, including as a beautician, photographer, restauranteur, artist (oil on canvas, painted glass and ceramics), and antiques dealer. She owned and operated the Branding Iron Restaurant in Jamul for eight years. She later concentrated on antique and jewelry buying and selling, and making art. She moved to Watsonville in the early 1970s. Mrs. Seely was married five times. Her husbands, in order, were Marvin Jorgensen, Joe Walton, Clarence Blust, John Joseph “Moon” Mullins, Jr. and Harleigh Erwin Seely Jr.

Mrs. Seely is survived by her nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Watsonville. Davis Memorial Chapel has been entrusted with arrangements.
