The funeral for Meritt Ambrose Seely will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Young's Funeral Home in Tigard. Burial will be Tuesday in Greenwood Cemetery in Bend.

Mr. Seely died of cancer Thursday in a Portland care facility. He was 96.

Mr. Seely was born May 9, 1897, in Alsea. He was a lifelong Oregon resident who started logging at an early age. He worked for the Slevlin Hixon Logging Co. in Bend and the McCloud River Lumber Co. in Mount Shasta, Calif.

Mr. Seeley served in the Navy during World War I. He was a member of the Veterans of World War I, Sherwood American Legion.

He married Josephine Ivall on Aug. 19, 1983, in King City.

Besides his wife, survivors include daughters, Mary Smith of Mount Shasta, Calif., and Kathleen Klungness of Winlock, Wash.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances be contributions to the Visiting Nurses Association.
