Publication Montie Pearl Seely passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 59, surrounded by his family, Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011. Montie was born in Grinelle, Iowa, February 9, 1952. He was raised in Hawaiian Gardens, Calif. Family was the most important thing to Montie. He raised his own family in Missouri near his parents, aunts and uncles and remained there to care for his own parents. Once they passed and his children had moved away, he and his wife moved to Beatty. Here, he continued his life's work of helping others; he and his twin brother were volunteer fire fighters. He also fell in love with the people, the high desert, wild burros, sunrises and sunsets and spent all his spare time there with his own dogs and anyone else's dog who wanted to come along. For more than 40 years, his passion was running heavy equipment, from the world's largest steam shovel in an open pit coal mine to every piece of equipment at Republic Services landfill north of Las Vegas. During his career, he earned numerous safety awards, found many ways to improve operations for cost savings and safety. He was proud to be a part of finding ways to protect the environment and ensure a better future for his grandchildren. His last employer, Republic Services, was like a second family who loved and appreciated him as much as his own family. Montie never met a stranger, he was always there to help anyone in need, he loved to learn and teach and he always put others first. He is survived by his wife, of 35 years, high school sweetheart, Larrikin Davies; his children, Lawrence Seely, April Barr, Dorothey Haro; and four grandchildren, Ian, Sean, Heidi and Eve. He is also mourned by his siblings, Earl Seely, Jacquilyn Johnson and Robert Seely, and their families. Please join us to celebrate his life and legacy at at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, the LDS Church, 8755 Iron Mountain Road, Las Vegas NV 89143. No flowers please. Donations made to the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, 7445 Peak Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89128, http://www.cccnevada.com/ in his name would be greatly appreciated.
