Orla Seely

Orla Seely, 75, a long-time resident of the Iowa Great Lakes area, died Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ray Olson, at Cherokee, following a seven week’s illness.

He was born July 21, 1891, in Cherokee county and was married to Esther Simons on March 21, 1914. She preceded him in death Nov. 10, 1954, and he was married on April 1, 1959, to Thessia Hiscox, who also preceded him, on August 19, 1966.

Mr. Seely is survived by one son, Max Seely of Spirit Lake; two daughters, Mrs. Veva Olson of Cherokee and Mrs. Boyd (Louetta) Kolb of Cleghorn; 11 grandchildren. He was also preceded by his parents, one brother and a sister.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Central Church of Christ at Cherokee with Evangelist Clarence Potter and also the Rev. Paul Baiotto of Arnolds Park officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery there.

Mr. Seely formerly lived in Cherokee and was a policeman at the mental Health Institute there for many years.
