Clifton Seelye

Clifton Seelye, 75, of Knoxville died Thursday, Apr. 25, 1968, at Soldier and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 15, 1892 in Deerfield Township, the son of Frank and Mary Taylor Seely, and great-great-grandson of Ebenezer Seelye, pioneer settler.

In 1915 he married Sarah Bland who died in 1918. In 1922 he married Rose Taft who survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Kenneth R. of Elkland and Eugene A. of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Mrs. Dan Pastrick of Horseheads, N.Y., and Mrs. Barry Van Schaick of Elkland; and three great-grandchildren.

Active in civil affairs, Mr. Seelye was a former member of the Knoxville School Board for 19 years; a former member of the Tioga County Board of Assistance, Knoxville Burgess from 1954-1958, a past master and member of Cowanesque Lodge F&AM and Coudersport Consistory. He was also instrumental in organizing the Knoxville Cattle Sales and a member of the Knoxville Civic Club.

Funeral services were held at the Gerald E. Eaton Funeral Home, Knoxville, Sunday at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Albert Bolster officiating. Burial was in the riverside Cemetery, Knoxville. Pallbearers were Robert Edgcomb, Cecil Mainus, George Kline, Merville Broadbent, Robert Lugg, and Lynn Doan.
