FORT EDWARD - Gerald W. Seelye, 82, of South Glens Falls, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born on Oct. 8, 1927, in Kingsbury, he was the son of the late Clifton and Clara (Washburn) Seelye.

Gerald was a graduate of Hudson Falls High School, where he lettered in three sports. Soon after high school, he joined the U.S. Navy. Gerald served his country from June 26, 1945 to Aug. 8, 1946. During his enlistment, Gerald was on the U.S. Navy softball team.

He was a talented athlete, who at one time, played semi pro baseball.

For many years, he worked as a service man for Scotty's Fuel Oil Company.

Gerald loved the outdoors, where he enjoyed skiing, golfing, hunting and fishing. But, the most important part of his life was spending time with his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of his universe.

Gerald attended all their sporting events and from time to time, would challenge the umpires.

He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, who will be greatly missed.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers, Ward Seelye, Donald Seelye, Clifton Seelye and his special friend, Patricia Bacas.

Survivors include his children: Michael Seelye and his wife, Joyce, of Cape Vincent, Tim Seelye and his wife, Debbie, of Queensbury, Kathy Tolstrup and her husband, Mark of Queensbury, Pat Seelye and his wife, Christine, of Queensbury, Bonnie Seelye of Upton, Mass., and Karen Speck and her husband, Kevin, of Queensbury; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his siblings, Eleanor Eggleston of South Glens Falls, Virginia Rainbow of Pennsylvania and Robert Seelye of Glens Falls; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home Inc., 68 Main St., in Hudson Falls.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kenneth Prater, pastor of the Durkeetown Baptist Church in Fort Edward.

Burial will follow at Moss Street Cemetery in the town of Kingsbury. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Warren County Health Services, 1340 State Route 9, Municipal Center, Lake George, NY 12845.
