John Arvel Seelye

RITES HELD FOR J. ARVEL SEELYE

MANITO – Funeral services for John Arvel Seelye, 73, of Manito, former owner and operator of Seelye Sales and Services and a former member of the board of education, were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Limback Funeral Home.

Mrs. (Illegible) officiated and interment was in Meadow Lawn cemetery. Organist was Mrs. Pearl Lee and serving as pallbearers were Russell (Illegible)

Mr. Seelye died at 8:40 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 1972, in Pekin Memorial hospital, following an extended illness. Prior to retirement in 1955, he had owned Seelye Sales and Service, auto agency, for 38 years, was a charter member of the Manito Rotary Club and served on the local board of education for 12 years.

A native of Manito, he was born Sept. 16, 1898, a son of Joseph and Nellie Meigs Seelye. He married Mayme Dwyer at Pekin on Apr. 23, 1922, and she survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James (Josephine) Roddell of Madison, Wis., and Dr. Barbara Seelye of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren and three great-grandsons; his mother, Mrs. Laura Seelye, Manito, three brothers, Jim Seelye of Manito, Emett Seelye of Atlanta and Clarel Seelye, address unknown.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
