Rev. M.T. Seelye died July 19, 1953. He was born November 10, 1857, in Hadley, the second son of Rev. and Mrs. Thomas Seelye. He received his early schooling in Ann Arbor, including a year at the U. of M.
As a young man he went to the Dakotas to settle on a land claim. Convinced that he was called to preach, he took a train to Wisconsin. A kindly Methodist minister took him under his wing and later gave him an opportunity to preach in his church. After serving several churches in Wisconsin he and his family moved back to Michigan where he held pastorates in Dixboro, Fairfield and Deerfield.
Mr. Seelye then went back to school, graduating from Albion College in 1895, and spending another year at post graduate work after that. Following his graduation he served charges in Caseville, Tecumseh, Bad Axe, Saginaw West Side, Durand, Chesaning and Imlay City. Following his retirement he preached at the Methodist Protestant Church in Lum.
Services were held in the Marlette Church, July 22, 1953, with burial in the family lot in the Lapeer cemetery.
