Robert L. Seelye, 79, died peacefully on Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Canton, Pa. on January 29, 1934, he was the son of the late Charles and Ruth Brown Seelye. He was a graduate of Canton High School and Mansfield State College where he received his bachelor's degree in education. He later received a master's degree from Union College in Schenectady. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Myer in Arlington, Va., where he served in the 3rd Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard). He began his teaching career at Athens High School in Athens, Pa. Bob later moved to Latham with his family in 1965 and taught biology at Shaker High School in the North Colonie School District before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Albany and the Evening Star Lodge 75 in Latham. Bob loved the outdoors and was a naturalist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening around his home. He is the husband of Virginia Noll Seelye, whom he married in 1959 in Scranton, Pa.; father of Brooke E. (William) Quandt of Scotia and Charles N. (Theresa) Seelye of Hanover, Mass.; grandfather of Elizabeth and William Quandt, Harper and Julian Seelye; brother of C. LeRoy Seelye and the late Herman Seelye, both of Canton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Bowen & Parker Bros. Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road in Latham. The interment will be at a later date at the Dunmore Cemetery in Dunmore, Pa. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital, 315 S.
