Vernon Eugene Seelye

On February 8, 2015, God called home His servant, Vernon Eugene Seelye, who is now free from pain and enjoying the glories of Heaven. He was ninety years old.

Vernon Eugene Seelye was born in Sears, Michigan on November 1, 1924 to Albert and Flossie (Reedy) Seelye. He was raised in Flint and graduated from Flint Technical School in 1943. At 18 he joined the Navy and served from August 11, 1943 to May 3, 1946. He was trained at the University of Chicago and Wooster College of Ohio and eventually posted in New York City at 90 Church Street (near the Manhattan Project) to work on the Norden bombsight. After being discharged he worked as a freelance motion-picture photographer and also owned an industrial sound equipment business. He finally retired from both IBEW and General Motors where he worked as an electrician at Fisher Body, Lansing. He resided in Bath, Michigan since 1955.

In July of 1962, God granted him amazing grace through Jesus Christ and it changed his life forever. This began his life-long love for people as he invested in youth work, missions, church life and just taking people to dinner to talk. Because of his own difficult childhood, he had a particular passion to help troubled kids and struggling fathers. He lived his life as a warrior and left a legacy of goodness and a swath of ragamuffins who enjoy the grace of the Father. In his own words, "God is faithful-He has led me-afflicted me-stretched me-taught me, but, most importantly, He has loved me and will forever."

He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Leah Mae (Lambert) Seelye; his children, Sandra Wong, Gary (Nancy) Seelye, and Jeff (Susan) Seelye; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Tribes Mission or Stoneleigh Hospice House.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015, at Graham Community Church, 8920 Britton Road, Laingsburg, MI, at 1:00pm. Following the service, a meal will be served at First Baptist Church of Laingsburg, located on the corner of Grand River Avenue and Woodbury Road, in Laingsburg.
