Publication Alverta “Sis” Seelye, 100, La Crosse, Kansas, died May 21, 2003 at the Rush County Nursing Home, La Crosse.

She was born May 6, 1903 on a farm near the Ellis-Rush County line near Dutch Hollow, the daughter of Christian Benjamin and Sophia Marie (Ree) Doerr.

She was a lifetime resident of Ellis and Rush counties, attended a one-room school in Ellis County. She was a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed riding horses, quilting and crocheting. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and entertaining and was noted for her homemade breads and meals.

She was a member of the Dames Club at Fort Hays State University; HDU; and a past president of the What Not Club. Mrs. Seelye was baptized into the Methodist Faith.

On September 5, 1925, she married Arthur G. Seelye in Scott City, KS. He died December 14, 1949.

Survivors include one daughter, Ruthetta Hansen of McCracken, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Freda Doerr of Yuma, Arizona; two grandchildren, John Hansen of McCracken, and Steven Hansen and his wife Bonnie of Garden City, Kansas; five nieces, Nancy Allen of Bison, Kansas, Elaine Barker and Patricia Raikes of Topeka, Kansas, Charlotte Biays of Timken, Kansas, and Brenda Stephens of Yuma, Arizona; and three nephews, Clifford Bizek of Dallas, Bill Doerr of Palmdale, Calif., and Roger Doerr of Yuma. .

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Alfred Arthur Seelye and Leland Keith Seelye; one son-in-law, Charles Hansen; four brothers, Leonard W. Doerr, William H. Doerr, Benjamin A. Doerr and Herbert G. Doerr; four sisters-in-law, Charles Bizek and Wesley Butler; two nieces Thelma Jean Bizek and Sherla Lee Ferguson; and one nephew, Dennis Doerr.

Funeral service was May 24, 2003, at 2 p.m. at the Janousek Funeral Home Chapel, La Crosse, with Pastor Marilyn Christmore officiating. Interment was in La Cross City Cemetery.

Visitation was May 24 from noon at 1:45 p.m., at the Janousek Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church or the Rush County Nursing Home, both of La Crosse, Kansas.
