Arthur Seelye, 75, archaeologist, dies

Arthur James Seelye, 75, retired farmer and archaeologist, died yesterday at his home in the Town of Butler, Wolcott RD 3.

A son of the late Ernest Osgood Seelye and Edith Chaddock Seelye, he was born in the Township of Rose. Mr. Seelye was a member of Rose Grange.

His hobby was collecting Iroquois Indian relics, and he had accumulated a large collection of artifacts. Mr. Seelye was an active member of the Central New York Archeological Society, and his work was used in writing many papers.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Dema Gaylord Seely; three daughters, Mrs. Lora Guillaume of Rochester, Mrs. Germaine Oesterle at Purdue University, Ind., and Mrs. Joyce Pascoe of Danville, Calif.; two sons, Judson Arthur Seelye of Indianapolis, Ind., and Gaylord Seelye of Los Angeles, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Wolcott Baptist Church Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Robertson Funeral Home, 44 New Hartford St.

Contributions may be made to a fund which will be used to make awards to outstanding high school history pupils.
