Publication Douglas V. Seelye, 82, of Peoria, AZ, died, Monday, July 8th in Watertown, NY where he was visiting his daughter. The funeral was Friday July 12th at the Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown. Contributions may be made to the Phoenix Bull Dog Club, a Bull Dog rescue unit in Phoenix, AZ. Mr. Seelye was a winter resident of Phoenix, AZ with his wife, Thelma, for several years. She died Sept. 1, 1999 in Watertown, NY. After the death of his wife, he moved to Peoria, AZ to live with his daughter, Carolyn Swartout. While in Arizona, he was a school crossing guard at Arrowhead Elementary School for the past eight years. He participated in a group that walked the Arrowhead Mall in Phoenix everyday. Mr. Seelye was a member at the Mission Bell Methodist Church in Phoenix, AZ. He is survived by 2 daughters, Carolyn Swartout, Peoria, AZ, Yvonne Roshia, Watertown, NY. One son David E. Seelye, Rochester, NY.

Douglas V. Seelye, 82, formerly of 433 Flower Ave. E., died Monday morning at Samaritan Medical Center. He was visiting his daughter, Yvonne Roshia, at her home, 725 Mill St., for the summer, when he was stricken ill.

Mr. Seelye was a mason for the Bricklayers Union Local 56 at various construction sites throughout New York state before retiring.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Mission Bell Methodist Church, Phoenix, Ariz., Local 56 and the Watertown Masonic Lodge.

Born May 29, 1920, in Louisville, Ky., son of Arthur and Dorothy Douglas Seelye, he attended Western High School, Louisville.

He served in the Army with the Third Armored Division during World War II and was training at Pine Camp, now Fort Drum, when he met Thelma Eastman. They were married March 29, 1942, at Asbury Methodist Church with the Rev. George H. McClung officiating.

The couple lived in Watertown most of their married life and, after retiring, spent winters in Phoenix. Mrs. Seelye died Sept. 1, 1999.

After his wife's death, Mr. Seelye moved to the Phoenix area to live with his other daughter, Carolyn Swartout, Peoria, Ariz.

While living in Arizona, he was a school crossing guard at Arrowhead Elementary School for the past eight years. He enjoyed wood carving and was a member of a walking group at Arrowhead Mall, Phoenix.

Surviving besides his daughters are a son, David E., Rochester; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews in Kentucky and Indiana.

Several brothers and sisters died before him.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville, with the Rev. Leon I. VanWie, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Donations may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 425 Washington St., Watertown, N.Y. 13601, or Phoenix Bull Dog Club, a bulldog rescue unit in Phoenix, Ariz.
