Duane John Seelye was born Aug. 30, 1951, at Mandan, the son of Duane O. and Betty M. (Martin) Seelye. Raised and educated in Mandan, he graduated from Mandan High School in 1970. He worked briefly for K-Mart and the State Highway Department before beginning his 33 years of employment as a carman with Northern Pacific (BNSF) Railroad. He married Helen O'Brien July 21, 1979, in Richmond, Minn.

Duane was very family-oriented and loved each member dearly. Always the first to be called upon for assistance, he was ever willing to help out, whether asked by family or one of his many friends and acquaintances. A gentle and very sociable man, Duane made friends wherever he went and could talk to just about anyone. He really enjoyed family gatherings of any kind and doted upon his granddaughter, Katie. Since he was very knowledgeable, a common statement among family members was, "Ask Duane." He loved music and had an encyclopedic memory of the songs released in the '60s and '70s.

He will be missed by many including his wife, Helen, Mandan; his daughter, Stacy Seelye and her fiance, Steven Newburgh, Mandan; his sons, Duane C., James and David, all of Mandan; his granddaughter, Katie Newbergh; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Tina and Curt Maas and Sherry and Keith Keller, all of Mandan; several nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clarence and Lorraine O'Brien, Richmond; and his special friends, Larry Belden and Paul Berger, both of Mandan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
