Edward A. "Sonny" Seelye Jr.


Edward A. "Sonny" Seelye Jr., 79, of Elk Haven Nursing Home, St. Marys, and formerly of 1044 S. Michael Road, died on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Elk Haven Nursing Home following a brief illness.

He was born August 4, 1932 in St. Marys, a son of the late Edward and Mary Ann Caskey Seelye.

Mr. Seelye was a member of Queen of the World Church. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He worked at Keystone Carbon Company for more than 47 years. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially cutting his grass. He also enjoyed hunting and hiking and most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Seelye of St. Marys and Lynne Seelye of St. Marys; four sons, Donald "Rail" Seelye of St. Marys, Allen "Bird" Seelye and his wife MaryKay of St. Marys, Larry Seelye and his wife Lorraine of Pittsburgh, and Jack Seelye and his wife Diane of St. Marys; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Howard Gradl and his wife Phyllis of St. Marys; and three sisters, Phyllis, Mrs. Daniel Bricen of St. Marys, Jean, Mrs. Lowell Pontzer of St. Marys, and Joyce, Mrs. Eugene Leviski of St. Marys.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Gloria Schneider Seelye.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Edward A. "Sonny" Seelye Jr. will be celebrated at the Queen Of The World Church, 134 Queens Road, St. Marys, on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at noon, with the Rev. Eric Vogt, OSB, as celebrant.

Military honors will be conducted by the St. Marys Servicemen's Burial Detail.

Burial will follow in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Lynch-Green Funeral Home, 151 N. Michael St., St. Marys, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
